How to Buy Willow Baskets Wholesale

Compare wholesale willow basket quotes, check carton and freight costs, and plan inspection and reorders.

Give every supplier the same basket specifications, quantities, and delivery requirements. Ask for the packed carton dimensions and calculate what each sellable basket will cost when it reaches your warehouse. A carton that holds fewer pieces can push up the freight cost per basket.

Start with the job the basket needs to do

For shelf storage, measure the opening and include handles or a lid in the outside dimensions. For a gift basket, put the actual contents in a sample. A rim that tapers inward can make a basket awkward to fill even if the base looks wide enough. Give suppliers both the space the basket must fit and the usable space you need inside it.

If you are buying willow specifically, ask for the material of the woven body, rim, and handles in writing. Wicker describes the weave, and suppliers can use different materials to make similar shapes. For existing designs, identify each one by its item code or a reference photo. Send one request for quotes to every supplier

Use one line per style and size. Ask each supplier to reply against the same lines so you can compare what they are offering.

  • Give the item code or photo, intended use, inside and outside dimensions, material, and finish.
  • List your quantities by size and finish. Ask for the minimum order per variant and confirm whether the quote is per basket or per set.
  • Ask for units per carton, carton dimensions, and gross weight. Specify any wrapping, labels, or barcodes you need.
  • Give the destination and required arrival date. Ask which shipping charges are included and when the estimated production period starts.
  • Confirm sample cost and availability, the process for handling defects, and the minimum quantity and lead time for a reorder.

Ask for the Incoterms® rule, version, and named place or port if the quote uses Incoterms®. Give your freight forwarder the same carton details for each quote, along with the quoted shipping terms. That lets you see which costs the seller has already included and which you still need to budget. ICC guidance on using Incoterms® rules

Compare the landed cost per sellable basket

Start with the product and packing total. Add the freight, handling, insurance, applicable import charges, and delivery to your receiving point that you expect to pay separately. Check the quote and the forwarder’s estimate for charges that appear in both. Confirm destination charges with your broker or forwarder for the shipment you are planning.

Divide the total by the number of baskets you expect to be in sellable condition. In an example order of 300 pieces, setting 15 aside for damage or other defects leaves 285 sellable pieces. Divide by 285 in that scenario. Run the calculation at several reject counts before you have receiving data for the item.

Ask to see how the sample baskets will be packed. Nesting can put more baskets in a carton, but check whether the rims rub, the handles are compressed, or the baskets are hard to separate. Use the packed carton measurements in the freight estimate.

Agree on what you will accept before placing the order

Keep the approved sample and a short list of checks for each style. Check how the basket sits on a flat surface, look for sharp protrusions and loose weaving, and try the handles, lid, or liner if the design includes them. Agree on which size and color differences you can accept and which faults the supplier should correct. For a load-bearing handle, agree on a check suited to the intended load.

At receiving, record the delivery and carton numbers, photograph visible carton damage, and open cartons from different parts of the shipment under your agreed inspection plan. Compare the products with the approved sample. Count and set aside affected pieces, then send the supplier the item code, quantity, and photos for the claim. That record also gives you a better sellable-unit estimate for the next order.

Keep the details you will need for a reorder

Save the item code, approved sample, finish reference, carton specification, and receiving results. Before you reorder, confirm the same specification, the available quantity, and the current production and shipping schedule. If a supplier proposes a material or packing change, check the revised sample or carton before approving it.
